Probably the oldest surviving structure in Amelunxen is the (today) Protestant Church of St. George, which was consecrated in 1118. The Romanesque building was the parish church of the old Catholic parish of Amelunxen and has been used jointly by Protestant and Catholic Christians for a long time since the Reformation. Since the construction of the new Catholic church in 1822, it has only served the Protestant community. The church is open during the day.
