The South Common is a large area of common land that lies on the southeastern boundary of the city, where the High Street meets Newark Road and St. Catherines. It lies between the built up area of the city, nearby Canwick and Bracebridge Heath, and the countryside beyond. There are areas of flat grass as well as more natural habitats which include grassland and scrub and plantations, hosting a variety of wildlife. There are lots of natural areas to explore with wildlife to watch. The Common is located on an up-hill slope, giving the park fantastic views from all angles. From there you can spot places of interest such as Lincoln City's football ground and of course Lincoln Cathedral up on the hill. You can enter South Common from South Park Avenue or Newark Road.

Go to South Common for the view over Lincoln, of the cathedral and across the Witham valley. Best done in winter when there is less foliage.
