A shepherd boy from Herbrechtingen spent the warm days with his flock outside at the Buigen.
One night the Buigen-Männle appeared to him, small and globular in shape, with icicles hanging from his face and hair.
It exhorted him and the people to remember the passing of the seasons:
"The summer nights when you can entrust the cattle to a poor shepherd boy won't last forever.
A hard winter is coming!"
The shepherd boy told about it.
Armed friends accompanied him the next night.
When the Buigen man appeared at midnight, they shot.
It curled into a fiery sphere and dissolved into the horizon with a yelling warning sound.
Nature had spoken through the little Buigen man, for indeed a severe winter was coming.
Livestock and people perished where no precautions were taken.
