The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) left its mark everywhere in Central Germany. Particularly typical are the so-called “Welschen Hauben”, which crown many churches (for example in Nemsdorf, Dornstedt, Steigra, Fienstedt or in cities like Querfurt and Bad Lauchstädt), but can also be found on town halls. In Wettin, however, subsequent city fires meant that a new building became necessary. There is an inscription on the building that bears the year 1660. In this city fire, the old cityscape was finally destroyed and the list of monuments assumes that the year indicates the renovation of the fire ruins, as the actual construction work was not completed until 1662. This is documented directly above by a coat of arms stone with the inscription:

Ao. In 1660, on March 10th, this town hall was demolished
brandt and in the same, 1661st and 1662nd years
with God's help new ones were built

The town hall has a featured tower, as can also be found in Mücheln or Querfurt. This is said to have been built at that time and has an arbor in the entrance area. Although the town hall is aligned with the small square, it does not dominate it because it is slightly offset and in the upper street.

Representative building for such a small place, not only here is a little money missing for renovation.

The construction was completed in 1662. It replaced the previous town hall building, which was destroyed in a city fire on March 10, 1660. Reconstruction began in the year of the city fire. The town hall tower is said to have been built during the new building after the city fire. The town hall was redesigned by Otto Kilburger in 1878.

Nice ambience of a small town with rest stops.
