The church replaced the approximately 600-year-old village church, which was demolished in 1935 except for the tower. The new church was designed by the architect Hans Döllgast and was consecrated in 1936 by Cardinal Faulhaber. After reconstruction, the altar was consecrated on November 30, 1978 by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who later became Pope Benedict XVI. A plaque with the papal coat of arms below the choir organ commemorates this consecration.
