The Baggersee HAUBACHSEE is located in the south of the city of Duisburg and belongs to the recreation area Six-Lakes-Platte. The Six Lakes Plateau consists of the lakes Wambachsee, Masurensee, Böllertsee, Wolfssee, Wildförstersee and HAUBACHSEE. This z.T. interconnected lakes have a total water area of approximately 158 ha.
The nature-based Baggerseengebiet is surrounded by extensive forests with numerous hiking trails. All lakes can be circumnavigated on shore-side and well-developed paths. The lakes located in the southern part of the Lakes are protected and developed for biotopes.
After completing the graveling, the HAUBACHSEE was recultivated as bird protection waters and handed over to the City of Duisburg for use in 2001. The entire bank of the HAUBACHSEES, some banks of the other five lakes and the two islands are designated nature reserve and must not be entered.
