The town hall, built in its current architectural form in 1828, reflects the economic strength, sovereignty and pride of its citizens. Although it was designed as a functional building for a wide variety of tasks, its inherent representative character has remained noticeably alive. Inspired by ancient Greece, a portal was created that is architecturally unique in Saxony. Four Doric columns made of red porphyry tuff give the town hall building its striking character. In its "outer shell" with almost no notable changes, the visitor is presented with an impressive masterpiece of contemporary architecture inside.
