The Schärding-Neuhaus power plant was built between 1959 and 1961 as the second power plant in the “Grenzkraftwerke” power plant group. The power plant group is characterized by its geographical location on the rivers Inn and Danube, between Austria and Bavaria. Four Kaplan turbines are installed in the power plant, which generate around 542 GWh of electricity per year and supply the region with valuable hydropower.

The path ends on the Inndamm in front of the power station. There is NO cycle path over the power plant. The path continues away from the Inn and then over the historic Rott Bridge near Weihmorting to Neuhaus. There you can cycle on the German side of the Inn to Passau or to Schärding and from there on to Passau on the Austrian side.
