One of the many replicas of this New York icon that is actually very French.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to America in 1884 on the occasion of the centenary of American independence.

The design was carried out by the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.
His mother Charlotte Bartholdi is said to have been the model for this. Others say it was his lover and later wife Jeanne-Emilie Bartholdi and still others are convinced that the goddess Hera inspired Bartholdi.

In 1906, this statue, which is only 2.85 meters high, was placed in the Jardin du Luxembourg. But after the flame was stolen and due to the extensive damage, it was moved to the Musée d'Orsay. In 2013 the garden was decorated again with a new replica.
