Lake Weßling is an isolated lake. It has only underground springs. For this reason, there is no naturally grown fish population. Fish that were repeatedly introduced often died due to a lack of oxygen. To prevent the lake from tipping over, an oxygen pump was installed in the middle of the lake at the end of the 1970s to ventilate the deep water. It also lets a jet of water shoot upwards at a fixed time.

Lake Weßling is located in the middle of the town of Weßling in Upper Bavaria. It is by far the smallest of the five lakes that give the Five Lakes Region its name. It probably came into being as a dead ice hole during the Würm Ice Age, when part of the glacier tongue buried a large piece of ice here. The weight of the glacier tongue pressed it deep into the ground. A depression remained in which water could later collect when it melted.
