These picturesque ruins have a splendid view of the sea: from here you can admire the sunset over the city of Sestri Levante and take wonderful photos. There is also a bench located right in front of the sea where you can rest!

It is the story of a promontory abandoned over the centuries which still preserves the Rocche di Sant'Anna, the ruins of a church exposed to the wind, the sea and time. It is estimated that the original construction dates back to around the year 1000 while the oldest written sources speak of its renovation with a sandstone construction around 1500. In those years a mass was celebrated every day and on the occasion of the feast of Sant'Anna a fair was set up along the ancient Roman road with days of music, games, dances and songs.

For years this festival was condemned by the Bishop of Brugnato and the Podestà of Sestri because it was considered not very religious, but after a few decades it was officially authorized by the Republic of Genoa. Today, as then, it is a unique place. It was a pilgrimage destination, today, for hikers. Its abandonment dates back to 1810 when the coastal road was built and its exposure, however extraordinary and breathtaking, contributed to the rapid deterioration of the structure.

Saint Anne is the mother of the Blessed Mother Mary, who is not attested in the biblical texts, i.e. the grandmother of Jesus Christ. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal (i.e. not included in the canon of the Bible) writings, for example in the so-called “Protoevangelium of James”. There is no historically reliable information about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories, which are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among other things, she is the patron of the St. Anna Church in Düren (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany), where a piece of her skull is kept as a relic.
In the church calendar, Saint Anna's memorial day - together with her husband Joachim - is on July 26th.
