In the Plaza de la Inmaculada stands this monastery, founded by a group of Benedictines who, shortly after the discovery of the remains of the Apostle, settled in a place called Pignario, near the Corticela chapel (today integrated into the Cathedral). , where they celebrated their trades. The greatest development begins when in 1494 it becomes dependent on the Benedictine congregation of Valladolid. From here they will reach the wealth that will allow them to pay for the imposing works of the church, which constitutes, together with the Cathedral, the most valuable set of Galician baroque. During 1991, after the monastic rooms were refurbished and the valuable altarpieces cleaned and restored, it hosted the anthological exhibition of Galician art 'Galicia no tempo'. In the year 2000, in which Santiago celebrated its cultural capital status, it hosted the exhibition 'As Faces de Deus'.

Second largest (former) monastery in Spain. Large and very impressive monastery church with very large choir rooms not only below, but also above. Worth seeing. Discount price for pilgrims
