On the Danube slope west of Oberndorf, several now abandoned quarries with walls more than 40 m high have exposed massive reef dolomites from the Malm epsilon to zeta (Upper Kimmeridge/Lower Tithonian). As a result of the late diagenetic dolomitization, fossils and original structures of the rock have largely disappeared. The mining has cut into numerous karst cavities, some of which are filled with clay. Old sinter (stalactites) can be found in the slump blocks. Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU).
