It serves as a natural outdoor pool and with its surrounding facilities such as a sunbathing lawn, children's playground, sports areas and circular paths as a popular local recreation area. A fishing use is not possible because of the extreme acidification (pH value on average 4.2). The lake trail and Franconian mountain trail run along the lake
