Crickets are chirping, bees are buzzing and butterflies are circling around each other in a field of flowers. It is right next to the Steigerwald center in Handthal (Schweinfurt district). And just below is one of the two entrances to the new Franziskusweg. The second is the village's newly renovated Magdalen Chapel.
A stele with St. Francis kneeling before a bird marks the beginning of the path. The initiator of the project, Pastor Stefan Mai, explains: “We built the Franziskusweg in this beautiful place. Francis consciously as the patron of ecology, as the patron of animals, because he fits right into this area, into this beautiful forest landscape. Franz kneels before nature.”
