Tips

  • The 97 meter high tower makes the church in Mulhouse the tallest Protestant temple in France. Designed by Jean-Baptiste Schacre, the neo-Gothic building was erected between 1859-1866 on the site of the previous church, the origins of which date back to the 12th century.

  • Saint Stephen (Saint Etienne), to whom this Mulhouse church is dedicated, is one of the first seven deacons of the early Jerusalem community and is also the first martyr (martyr) of early Christianity. The church commemorates him on Boxing Day, December 26.
When Stephen cried out his vision of the open heaven, "But he, being filled with the Holy Spirit, looked up into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God" (Acts 7:55), the people were so indignant that that they drove him out of the city and stoned him.

  • Beautiful ensemble with church, market square, old town hall - with a fountain in front of it - typical French life rages here. On the steps in front of the portal you can sit and enjoy.
