Thanks to its easily defensible perched position, Enna was nicknamed by the Romans "urbi inexpugnabilis" or "impregnable city". But it is not the only Latin name given to this town, perhaps the best known is the wording "umbilicus Siciliae" or "navel of Sicily". In fact, Enna is located in the geographical center of the island, on which the obelisk of the Church of Montesalvo was erected. Enna stands on one of the limestone and arenaceous hills that make up the chain of the Erei Mountains, the northern side of this relief is the steepest and is covered by woods while the southern one, more gentle, is where the city develops. The fortune of Enna also derives from five springs that have favored the development of the town since ancient times.
