Chiesa Matrice dei Santi Sergio e Soci, Vallefiorita
The mother church of Vallefiorita, dedicated to Saint Sergius and his collaborators, was built in 1803.
The earthquake of 1783 had destroyed the old church of Sant'Elia and the village had remained without the only place of worship, so that the Vallefioritesi made their contribution to the construction of the new sacred building. Everyone did something, those who take turns loaning their work and those who donated money with great sacrifices, but the work was brought to completion.
Originally the church had a single nave, only later the two chapels were added, which were dedicated to Saint Anthony and Our Lady of Lourdes.
The interior decorations with valuable stucco work and paintings are the work of masters Cefaly and Pignatari.
The frescoes of the "Last Supper", the "Holy Family" and the "Miracle of San Rocco" are noteworthy.
The exterior facade with the bell tower and clock is in the Renaissance style.
