    St. Egidius Church of Windheim.

    Interior of the church
The Roman Catholic parish church St. Ägidius is located in Windheim, a district of the municipality Wartmannsroth in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen. The church and is the hl. Aegidius consecrated.

The church is one of the architectural monuments of Wartmannsroth and is registered under the number D-6-72-161-19 in the Bavarian monument list.

    story
Windheim initially belonged to the parish Wolfsmünster. The first Windheimer church was built by Philipp von Thüngen in 1546 according to the characteristics of the place accordingly for the Protestant believers. As the only Protestant church in the region, it was visited by Protestants from the region to the Rhön. At the same time as the first church, Windheim became its own parish.

In the course of the Counter-Reformation Windheim returned on August 28, 1628 back to the Catholic parish Diebach and in 1687 to the first parish Wolfmünster. The Protestant church was replaced by a new building built in the years 1765/66 by the Würzburg Juliusspital by the master builder Johann Christoph Kleinholz.

In 1811, Windheim became a curator and in 1848 another parish - this time a Catholic parish.

    description
The four-storey church tower with onion dome protrudes from the curved north facade of the nave. The nave has three window axes and a stucco ceiling. The southern choir begins with a cross vaulted yoke and is closed on three sides.

    domestic equipments
The interior was designed around 1770 by Peter Wagner. While the high altar erected by Peter Wagner fell victim to a fire in 1867, the pulpit carved by him is still preserved. The present high altar came in 1879 from Hammelburg to Windheim and, like the burnt-down altar, contains a crucifixion group. It was built around the year 1680 in Baroque style.

The side altars received in 1909 a Sacred Heart figure (left) and 1911 a statue of Mary (right).

The organ was installed in 1770 as a used instrument in the middle of the double gallery in a housing from 1780.

The church has three bells, one of which was cast in 1928 and two added in 1960.
