For centuries, the port of Collet was the main point of departure for the export of salt produced in the salt marshes of the coast. At the end of the 15th century, more than 200 ships loaded in the bay of Bourgneuf (then known as “bay of Brittany”). Gradually, the siltation of the bay causes the end of the activity.
Thanks to a lock built in 1879 which regulates the waters of the Marais and those of the sea, the port's activity can continue around oyster farming and yachting.
