The historic "Napoleon Street" leads from the San Nazario car park at the southern end of the village of Prosecco, above Miramare Castle, approx. 300 meters above sea level, approx. 4 km long to the obelisk above Trieste.
According to legend, Napoleon had it built in 1797 as a supply route for his troops.
The official name of the former strategic supply route and today's Napoleonstrasse/Strada Napoleonica cycling and hiking trail is "Strada Vicentina", named after the engineer Giacomo Vicentini, according to whose plans the path was expanded in 1821.
