As early as 1990, the first application was made to build a cycle path between Waldkappel and Friemen. But the mills grind slowly. The planning started in 2008, and it wasn't until 2017 that the time had finally come when the cycle path in Schemmerngrund could be opened. This closes the gap for the route from Waldkappel to Gehau on paved paths away from the country road, only a gravel path still runs between Friemen and Burghofen (section of the premium hiking trail P17).
