"Settlement Engelsburg South
The civil service houses were built in the years 1910-1914 by the Bochum club for officials of the pit Engelsburg. The colliery was acquired by the Bochum club in 1889 and generously expanded. With the development of the colliery, the company housing construction went hand in hand.
The civil servants' houses are individually designed and generously dimensioned buildings. Particularly striking are the facades, which vary in material and shape and are particularly carefully designed, as well as the diverse, sometimes quite lively roof shapes. The civil servants' houses on the Engelsburger Str. Are a particularly obvious and well-preserved example of the development of house-bound housing construction after the turn of the century and in particular of its hierarchical social structure expressed in architecture. In addition, they document the economic and social history of the district Goldhamme. "
