When I was a child in the 1960s and 1970s, there were far more trains running, most of them with steam engines. Sometimes two steam locomotives had to pull the huge trains loaded with potash salt. At that time, freight was mainly transported by rail. Back then, nobody was upset about the noise and dirt, they were glad that the economy was booming.
