The tank road is asphalted or made of concrete elements. Today it is somewhat overgrown in some places and is not quite as wide as it used to be. It was the connection from the carriage sheds of the Belgian garrison on the Wellersberg (at the time opposite the children's hospital), past the former ammunition depot, to the military training area - today Trupbacher Heide. What was once a military restricted area is now a great local recreation area and designated as a nature reserve.
