Perhaps to see it in new splendor thanks to the current fundraising campaign in 2022

Shortly after the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871) and the resulting founding of the German Empire, the citizens of the town of Gandersheim decided to build a lookout tower on the Clusberg in honor of Kaiser Wilhelm I.The foundation stone was laid in 1875, but the tower was not completed until 25 years later, with a ceremonial inauguration on September 30, 1900.As with other similar projects of the time (see: Gaußturm in Dransfeld), there were financing problems that delayed construction and ultimately even led to a change in the construction design. Initially, the entire tower was planned to be solidly built, but ultimately only the base was built in stone and the upper part was built on top of it in wood. After the inauguration, the Wilhelmsturm quickly became a popular tourist destination. From the top of the tower, which towered above the treetops, one could - one can assume - enjoy an impressive panoramic view. The Wilhelmsturm also became a landmark of Gandersheim, which was found on postcards from that time.
