Hiking
The castle has an irregular design adapted to the topography of the hill and has several bastions and curtains with a broken layout. Although it was built for defensive purposes, it never entered active military service. During the Spanish Civil War, it was used as a concentration camp by Franco's troops.

It was built on Mount Tossal, also known as Cerro de San Fernando, during the War of Independence against the French in 1813.
The castle was built as a prison, but also to strengthen the defensive capabilities of the Castle of Santa Bárbara. It was never put into use.
