The Graefenthal Monastery was a Cistercian monastery, the remains of which stand between Kessel and Asperden near the Niers in today's Kleve district. The former monastery church served as a burial place for counts, nobles and nuns. Wikipedia

Today there are changing events throughout the year.

The Graefenthal Monastery is located directly on the German-Dutch border in the middle of the idyllic Niers landscape. If you step through the gatehouse, you will be surprised by eight centuries of history: Gothic elements from the 13th to 15th centuries, baroque and classicist parts of the building from the 18th century, surrounded by an impressive fortress wall. The monastery, founded in 1248, has lost none of its charm to this day.

Kloster Gräfenthal invites you for coffee and cake after a nice gas tour. Many chickens of any kind roam freely around the grounds.

Mega nice to walk here. On weekends it is mostly overcrowded in good weather.

Delicious cake, great ambience. During our visit, which was not as cozy and cozy as usual due to the corona, the colorful and very friendly chickens on the cloister courtyard proved to be splendid hosts.

Anyone who wants to can strengthen themselves here. At the back (behind the parking lots) there is also a passage to the water (but the path does not lead any further).

Night hike April 2022: "The only lantern at the gatehouse of the Graefenthal monastery, which we pass before we trot the last five kilometers on a meditatively laced riverside path to Goch, shines poisonous green eerily.
