Gachepouy Castle is an old castle, now in ruins, located in the town of Castet-Arrouy (Gers), between Lectoure and Miradoux.
The name of the place comes from the Gascon gachar, to watch, to watch, and from pouy (Latin podium) which designates a height. This is one of the characteristics of the Gascon castle, established as a lookout post rather than a real fortress.
The castle, overlooking the Auroue valley, is located on a hill, at an altitude of 175 m, and on a circular mound. The main body is rectangular, with two floors, and is flanked by two towers, to the northeast and southwest. It is a Gascon castle which has undergone multiple subsequent modifications.
Located near the GR 65, on the Via Podiensis of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage, it constitutes a landmark for pilgrims passing between Miradoux and Lectoure.
