These unusual rocks, called Norber erratics, have, in fact, originated quite a far way away in Crummackdale and were transported here by the glacier during the last Ice Age. (I shall just remind you that, during the last Ice Age, the word 'Crummackdale' was not actually in operation!) The rocks are Silurian, not matching the limestone area of this part of the country.
