Beautiful, picturesquely situated parish church of St. Leonhard.

Before Kreuth became an independent parish in 1809, it was a branch of the Tegernsee Monastery, whose abbot Rupert I. von Neuburg-Falkenstein had a stone church built in Kreuth in 1184. This church was consecrated to St. Leonhard by Bishop Udalschalk of Augsburg.

The first church was demolished in 1490 due to dilapidation and built by Abbot Ayrinschmalz from the Tegernsee Monastery in Gothic style by 1491 and consecrated by Auxiliary Bishop Ulrich von Salona and Bishop Sixtus von Tannberg from Freising.

This building was changed and renovated several times (1687 Baroque, 1776 lengthening of the church by 3 meters, 1864 Regotization, 1930 renovation, 1955 redesign of the chancel, 1990/91 renovation), but it still serves as a parish church today.

Every year on November 6th, the patronage festival of St. Leonhard is celebrated with a Leonhardfahrt (which is considered the oldest in Bavaria): After the service, the decorated horse-drawn carriages with the women in traditional costume drive around the church three times and are blessed in the process.

It is near the Leonardstein which is very cool and next to the guest house Eck. A detour there is therefore worthwhile
