Since the end of the 17th century, Miesbach has developed into a nationally known place of pilgrimage to the statue of the Mother of God in the parish church. At the height of this period, Pope Innocent XIII. the miraculous image entitled "Mater dolorosa, miraculis gloriosa". His successor Benedict XIII. also gave the congregation the bones of St. Maurus, which until recently were kept in the church.

The parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic church. After several redesigns of the interior after reconstruction after the city fire in 1783, the current appearance has existed since the year 2000 and according to the requirements of the new council liturgy since 1963.

The church is mentioned in a document in 1312 as the Frauenkirche and was probably founded in the 13th century. From 1693 it was called "Pilgrimage to the Mater dolorosa". A new building was built after the town fire in 1527. In the second half of the 16th century, Miesbach was under the rule of the Maxlrain family and was the center of the Reformation. Under Duke Wilhelm V the church became Roman Catholic again. Count Johann Veit von Maxlrain had the church completely rebuilt from 1663 to 1665. It was furnished in the baroque style and became a pilgrimage church from 1693. Wikipedia
