Simonskall Castle occupies a special position in the North Eifel, which is by no means poor in castles. Compared to Nideggen, Heimbach, Satzvey or even the "Ordensburg Vogelsang", the Simonskaller building seems quite modest. Nevertheless, it meets the criteria of such a building, is a well-fortified and defensible residential and commercial complex that offers its residents protection against attacks from outside. However, it is not known whether this protective function was ever required.
