Since the Reformation in 1527, Homburg was a thoroughly Protestant city.
It was not until the end of the 18th century that a small Catholic community was formed,
which began holding services again around 1812. Initially in the small Jakobskirche at Dorotheenstraße 5, but from 1895 onwards in St. Marien-Kirche,
which was newly built on the plots at Dorotheenstraße 15 and 17 and is now
Bad Homburg's main Catholic church.
The neo-Gothic building was designed by the Mainz cathedral master builder Ludwig Becker.
The walls and vaults of the wide nave as well as the narrow side aisles and the short transept are sparingly painted - a ring of high pointed arch windows adorns the choir. In addition to the carved altars, three valuable works of art are also worth seeing:
a Middle Rhine Pietà made of linden wood from around 1380, a Lower Rhine crucifixion group made of oak from around 1450 and a large late Gothic triumphal cross.

St. Mary's Church will not only delight your eyes, but also your ears:
In 1975, it received a wonderfully sounding Klais organ that harmoniously combines the modern and romantic styles.
