Haus Nachrodt offers a fascinating insight into the history of industrialization in the Lennetal, shaped by the Schmidt / Löbbecke family from Iserlohn. This family was very successful in metal manufacturing and laid the foundation for the development of the town in the early 19th century, which later became the eponymous district of the municipality of Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde, which was newly founded at the beginning of the 20th century. The property impressively illustrates the development from an industrialist's villa to an aristocratic residence and testifies to the way of life of its residents.

The history of Haus Nachrodt is closely linked to the social rise of a family from the middle class to the nobility. Over six generations, various family members have left their traces that bear witness to past ways of life. These included Eduard Schmidt, the builder of Haus Nachrodt and an industrial pioneer, as well as Emma Schmidt, née Löbbecke, whose social sense and passion for the surrounding landscape park along the Lenne were remarkable. Klara Schnitzler, née Schmidt, and Anton Wilhelm von Zuccalmaglio, a well-known folk song collector and tutor of the Schmidt children, are also part of this rich history.

In addition to the main building, the listed ensemble also includes the courtyard, a gardener's house, a landscape park, an avenue and the Dümpel farms as well as hereditary burials of the Schmidt / von Löbbecke and von Holtzbrinck / vonCarlowitz families. The park has a variety of exotic trees and plants and offers a romantic atmosphere, especially during the flowering period of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias in May.
