The former colliery Carolinenglück (until 1870 colliery Glückauf), located directly on the A40 and the Erzbahntrasse, is one of the oldest hard coal mines in Bochum and began in 1850 with the promotion. The still standing Malakow Tower, which is still standing today, is one of the oldest in the Ruhrgebiet. The coal was transported via the directly adjacent shaft 3.
Its conveyor framework is one of the rare, still preserved German strut scaffolding of the type Zschetzsche. In 1898, the heaviest mining accident in the Ruhr mining industry brought the Carolinenglück colliery into the headlines. At least 115 miners were killed in an explosive weather and coal dust explosion underground. Operating assignment was in 1964.
Since 1970, wells 2 and 3 are still used today to keep water.
The facility is located in the middle of the same name Gerwerbegebiet.

Of course, as a fan of industrial culture, I also have to keep my fingers crossed. But even better than having an old colliery on the route is a perfect route with an old mine and that is here. The mine is located on the Erzbahntrasse and you want to drive from front to back anyway!

The entire Erzbahntrasse is very nice to drive and connects the cities of Gelsenkirchen and Bochum on a green axis with a lot of industrial culture along the way.
