Best Hikes to Pommerlesloch Shaft Cave

Tips

  • The shaft cave is only opened on special occasions, e.g. training for the Maltese Cave Rescue Service. NABU takes care of mowing and clearing at the entrance.

  • The Pommerlesloch (also called Andreashöhle) is a shaft cave about 48 m deep (in the forest "long forests") and one of the most important caves in the Muschelkalkzone in the Upper Gäu east of the northern Black Forest. Obviously, the cave got its name from the word Pommer - a synonym for the dog breed Spitz - which was used in Swabian for a favorite dog, of course, in the diminutive form.
