A great monument that commemorates Thomas Mann and his longest story "Lord and Dog" in this dreamlike place at the outflow of the Mangfall from Lake Tegernsee. The group of sculptures is officially called "Thomas Mann mit Bauschan" and was created in 2001 by the local sculptor Quirin Roth, who died in 2020.

In 1918, Thomas Mann and his family spent the summer at Lake Tegernsee, where his novella “Herr und Hund” was written.
Due to the war, the family suffered from food shortages and was therefore dependent on supplies from Gmund farmers. A sign on the monument points this out.
