The Hutberg near Fischbach

The Hutberg is a 20-hectare nature reserve that belongs to the market town of Kallmünz. It is a habitat of numerous rare and endangered plant and animal species. It is characterized by large areas of dry grassland and limestone rocks. These house a multitude of specialists who are precisely adapted to such sunny and dry conditions.
Pasque flower, Carthusian carnation and cypress spurge thrive on the extensive dry grassland. Succulents such as stonecrop, stonecrop and cushion moss can be found on the rocks.
Rare animal species, especially insects such as the blue-winged grasshopper and reptiles such as the sand lizard are also found in this area.
In order to protect the dry grasslands from encroachment, they are grazed annually by sheep.
