A short hike into the colorful desert. Stone formations change from pink to black to white, brown and golden yellow. Some change in elevation should be expected. The Golden Canyon can be done in a Loop with Gower Gulch and even Badlands Loop for a longer hike. It is accessible from two sides, Badwater Road or the parking lot at Zabriskie Point.

Golden Canyon Trail to Red Cathedral is a 4.7 mile heavily trafficked trail during peak season. It leads past wonderful viewpoints and very impressive rock formations.

The first mile of the the trail is a mild hike up a canyon surrounded on all sides by golden rock formations and slot canyons. Later on the trail becomes a bit more difficult , requiring one to scramble over rocks until reaching the top of the slot canyon and the base of Red Cathedral. The view at the top is spectacular.
