When traveling along the EN 16, a notable element appears among the curves on the Vouga riverside: The Ponte do Poço de S. Tiago, a monumental engineering project, with its 165m length, with a central arch measuring 55m in length. span and 28m tall. Built between 1912 and 1913, with a design by Paul Sejourné and guidance by François Mercier, both French, it is considered the tallest masonry bridge in the country. Of the many bridges designed, the railway bridge at Eaux-Salées, in French Provence, is the one that most resembles this bridge. Integrated in the Vale do Vouga Line, which connected Espinho to Viseu, this railway line was also known as the Vale das Voltas Line, due to its successive sinuous curves. The “Vouguinha”, the steam train circulated here, which later became diesel. On January 1, 1990, the line was permanently closed, between Sernada and Viseu. In the 21st century, the railway channel, within the municipality, was converted into a cycle eco-track, Ecopista do Vouga, and the old Paradela station was transformed to support visitors, with a bar and bicycle rental.

The Poço de S. Tiago Bridge, built between 1912 and 1913, is a remarkable 165-meter engineering work along the Vouga River. Integrated into the Vale do Vouga Line, closed in 1990, it was converted into an eco-track, revitalizing the old Paradela station as a tourist attraction.

For cyclists on road bikes: be careful, the bridge is passable, but the surface is gravel. It does not present significant technical difficulties, but it is important to take this into account.

Great view on top of an old train bridge over the Vouga river. The old train line has been converted to bike and pedestrian path.
