The Tannenfeld estate is located in the middle of a time-honored, idyllic park - consisting of a castle and a row of individually designed houses generously arranged around the center. The classicist castle and the English Tannenfeld park have something that no new building can offer: their own centuries-long history. Built under Duchess Anna Dorothea of Courland in 1815, the estate developed at the beginning of the 19th century into a center of philosophical and political discourse, music and poetry in the spirit of the Parisian salons of the 18th century. Goethe liked to stop by here for lunch.

A beautiful, 15 hectare park with a not so beautiful castle.
The castle and the majority of the houses on the site have been empty since around 2002.
I personally like to associate the facility with the film Shutter Island, especially with the background that from 1951 to 1985 the facility housed a specialist clinic for neurology and psychiatry.
In 2011, the film "The Girl and Death" was shot here.
