The Orther Islands, which were pushed up between the groynes by the Danube, can be reached along the Treppelweg. These gravel islands are partly dense with old willows and poplars, the shells of various types of mussels can be found between the stones. After floods, huge piles of alluvial debris form a habitat for heat-loving animal species such as snakes, spiders and various beetles.

At the level of the islands, the route turns into the forest and leads first over deserted meadows, then through a denser wooded area. When crossing a ditch, groundwater repeatedly emerges, a small reed population indicates a former oxbow lake. Fresh wild boar tracks can often be discovered along the forest path. The path then runs along the Fadenbach, where European pond turtles sunbathe on drifting wood in spring and summer. Finally, you cross two vast meadows, where the most poisonous plant of the Danube floodplains, the autumn crocus, blooms from August. At last you return to the Danube via the Uferstraße.

You can park easily at the Uferhaus. There are benches on the route to rest.
