If you walk down towards Teguise you have a good view of the Castillo de Santa Bárbara.

It stands on the remains of the castle that Lancelotto Malocello built at the beginning of the 14th century. Around 1571, Gaspar de Salcedo added the two towers that complete the diamond floor plan of the castle. In 1589, Argote de Molina decided to reconstruct the castle after it was plundered by pirates in 1587. Its current appearance is the result of work that was completed in 1596. The drawbridge was reconstructed in 1655. In 1687, the builder Juan Luis reconstructed the vault and the floor of the weapons area.

With the loss of its usefulness in defense, the castle gradually decayed over the years until in 1960 the association "Amigos de los Castillos (Friends of Castles)" began its first restoration. The following intervention was due in 1977 to the "Bellas Artes".

The hermitage was used as a garage, so the then pastor Don Nicolás Rodríguez prohibited the conduct of religious acts. The pictures were brought to the parish of Teguise. However, the chapel was still used as a refuge when descending the Virgen de las Nieves.

In 1951 the owner demolished the roof to sell the wood. Today its stones are silent witnesses to the religious history of Lanzarote.
