This is the oldest windmill in Avesnois (dated before 1789).
Built of blue stone rubble, this cylindrical mill stands 14 meters high on the left bank of the Sambre. The wings present a rare feature north of Paris: they are Berton type wings (wings of the Vendée mills), there are four Berton mills north of Paris.
