By resolution of October 7, 1993, the nature reserve at the Vogelsburg was designated with an area of around 53 hectares.
Protected area no. NSG-00454.01.
The protected area is part of the Natura-2000 network and thus an element of the Maintal protected area between Schweinfurt and Dettelbach with the number DE6027471. In addition, the entire area is designated as a bird sanctuary and flora-fauna habitat.
The subject of protection is the northern impact slope at the foot of the Vogelsburg with hillside forest, semi-arid lawn, bushes and the biotopes on the banks of the Main. The impact slope is also registered as a geotope with the number 675R004 as part of the Volkacher Mainschleife. The preservation of the characteristic Main loop is also reflected as a protective purpose.
