The weir was built at the end of the 19th century and was part of the industrial use of water in the valley. The impounded water was channeled to the turbine of Alexander Scheibler's artificial wool factory, where it powered the machinery. The factory initially used water power to supplement its steam engine and later relied entirely on it to power production. With the cessation of textile production, the weir lost its original function; today, only remnants of the historical watercourse are visible.
