    Hiking

There are countless lime kilns in Mallorca. You come across them on every hike through the woods. The lime kiln used to be one of the most important industries in Mallorca.

The lime kiln is a round dry stone structure where lime burners laboriously transformed limestone into quicklime. The quicklime was then used as lime paint for walls, disinfectant for plants and conglomerate for construction.
This transformation process required a combustion process that required temperatures of up to 800 °C.
First, they had to get their fuel from the forest: wood. Then the stones were selected. Then the fire was lit and maintained for about ten to twelve days. Finally, the quicklime could be removed from the kiln.
