There is a possibility to walk straight ahead to the Fristow bridge. Since you have left and right partly towering ramparts and does not see much beautiful scenery. But if you turn off and take the path along the lake, you not only have a really beautiful view of the lake. At some point you discover these "feathers" in the trees. Admittedly, I first thought that some crazy wannabe Indian friend would have used it and was quite angry. But then you discover, every jaw is like that. This served the pine resin extraction! This is a very old craft, in which a large area of the bark is removed up to the wood in spring form. Then with a special iron, the grooves are notched into the wood, which meet in the middle and let the resin flow down. In the past, people then hung drip trays on the trees into which the resin flowed. More about this old and actually extinct craft you can find here: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harzer_(Beruf)
Please note that you have to climb over some fallen trees here. Gene Fristowbrücke orients itself by the white markings, which are sprayed on trees, which mark the route course!
