View of the Hohenwarte II pumped storage power plant built between 1956 and 1963, the youngest of the 8 power plants in the Saale Cascade. The Eichicht dam serves as the lower basin, the upper basin consists of an artificial lake with a capacity of approx. 3.3 million cubic meters, surrounded by a reinforced concrete wall up to 29 m high, approx. 300 m above the level of the dam.

Upper basin and machine house are connected by 8 parallel, 672 m long pipes (diameter above = 2.60 m and below = 1.90 m), which lead to 8 machine places - these consisting of a Francis turbine with 40 MW output, one Synchronous machine and on each shaft with a Pelton launch turbine. Total output of the power plant at 320 MW.
